I Do to Dessert
Dessert costs can add up handsomely and be the bill you least expected. Though most guests enjoy cake, not all do. How do you know how much to order and how to accommodate such a large group of people? Don't worry, we're about to walk you through it. The two key things you need to think through are what desserts you are excited to bring to the table on your day and being realistic with the amount you are going to order.
Option 1 - Order the cake differently: Display a small cake for traditional cutting and have a sheet cake pre-cut to be given to your guests; display a "fake" cake with only one "real" layer for traditional cutting and have a sheet cake for guest service; cupcake towers with a variety of flavors appeal to all guests and cost half the price of a cake; private bakers are generally cheaper due to reduced overhead expenses rather than retail bakeries.
Cake and dessert are not the main closing events that they used to be. Traditionally the cake cutting moment was positioned at the close of the night but more recently it is done just after dinner. Brides can decide whether they want to announce the cake moment or cut it semi-privately. Lots of brides opt for the latter and do both cake and dessert displays to offer variety to guests.
Option 2 - Order different desserts: Create dessert displays offering a variety of sweet treats; hire an ice cream bar/truck with toppings—they are always a hit; serve individual cakes per table instead of one large cake so that you can offer a variety of flavors; custom cookies that are individually wrapped are so easy and can double as wedding favors for guests to take home; creative displays with different heights and items like donuts or layered dessert cups can be both visually appealing and incorporate all guests' tastes.
Groom's cakes are all the rage right now, from yeti-designed fondant cakes to a dessert picked specifically for the groom's taste. Men get to have a piece of the day too!
Option 3 - Spotlight the groom: Customize his cake to reflect his personality; have a themed cake that reflects his favorite hobby; decide on when to serve it—it can be served at either the rehearsal dinner or the wedding reception alongside the other desserts.
